A hair-thin gold crystal could lift quantum tech out of the deep freeze

Researchers at LSU have developed a novel quantum material, a thin gold crystal on a glass chip, capable of distinguishing quantum states of light at room temperature without cryogenic cooling. This breakthrough bypasses the need for extreme cold, which has historically limited quantum technology applications. The material, termed a quantum statistical plasmonic metacrystal, could pave the way for more practical quantum computers, communication networks, and potentially improve solar cell efficiency.
