Amazon owns up to needing more human oversight over AI code—unfortunately, it wants to do that with fewer people

Amazon is increasing human oversight for AI-assisted code changes following a series of incidents with a high blast radius, some of which were tied to the use of generative AI tools. Despite these issues, the company is not abandoning AI coding tools but is requiring senior engineers to sign off on AI-assisted modifications. This comes as Amazon has laid off over 30,000 employees since October 2025, leading to increased workloads for remaining staff.
