A method has been discovered to transfer Miis from the Nintendo 3DS to Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 using an amiibo. The process involves saving a Mii to an amiibo via the 3DS's amiibo settings and then scanning it on the Switch. Game director Ryutaro Takahashi also revealed that development for the game began in 2017.
