Double Chooz measures the faint antineutrino afterglow of a reactor that’s already switched off
The Double Chooz collaboration has successfully measured the faint antineutrino signal emitted by nuclear reactors after they have been shut down, using 17.2 days of data. This marks the first experimental confirmation of predictions regarding residual radioactivity and provides a potential new method for independently verifying reactor status and spent fuel inventories.
