James Gunn didn't want Supergirl to be too similar to Superman: "Make it distinctive"
Director Craig Gillespie stated that James Gunn encouraged making Supergirl visually and thematically distinct from Superman, treating each DC Studios film as its own graphic novel. While Supergirl will feature Superman and Krypto, the film focuses on Kara Zor-El's off-world story and her team-up with Ruthye. The movie is set to release on June 26.
