A new Lord of the Rings movie is in development, co-written by Stephen Colbert and his son Peter, and will be directed by Peter Jackson. The film is set after Frodo's death and will explore events involving Sam's daughter Elanor, potentially featuring Tom Bombadil. The Hunt for Gollum, directed by Andy Serkis, is also confirmed for a December 17, 2027 release.
