Former Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy revealed that director Steven Spielberg and star Harrison Ford initially resisted the inclusion of aliens in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, clashing with George Lucas. They eventually compromised on 'interdimensional beings' instead of traditional aliens. Kennedy believes this compromise contributed to the film being the weakest of Spielberg's four Indiana Jones movies.
