Steven Spielberg didn't want aliens in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but "compromised" with George Lucas: "What if they're from another dimension?"

They eventually compromised on 'interdimensional beings' instead of traditional aliens. Kennedy believes this compromise contributed to the film being the weakest of Spielberg's four Indiana Jones movies.
