The animated spin-off Stranger Things: Tales from '85 was chosen over live-action primarily because the original actors have aged significantly since the show's early seasons. Showrunner Eric Robles also highlighted that animation allows for more extreme and ambitious creative choices that would be impractical or too costly in live-action. The series, set between seasons 2 and 3, focuses on the younger characters and premieres on April 23.
