The Uprising distributor denies it's a Robin Hood movie in one of the year's oddest controversies
Focus Features is marketing its upcoming historical drama 'The Uprising' starring Andrew Garfield as a Robin Hood-like figure, despite the film actually being about the 1381 Peasants' Revolt. The film's UK distributor, Entertainment Film Distributors, has denied any connection to Robin Hood and stated that UK marketing materials do not reference the outlaw. Director Paul Greengrass has previously stated the film was inspired by 'Piers Plowman,' which contains the first known mention of Robin Hood.
