Nintendo revealed that Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream was in development for nearly a decade, with director Ryutaro Takahashi stating that development began around 2017. The team focused on leveraging user-generated content, spending six to seven years on its tools to create what they consider the 'ultimate inside joke game'.
