The History of the Paralympic Games
The Paralympic Games, a major international sporting event for athletes with disabilities, originated in 1948 as a small rehabilitation competition for injured soldiers organized by Dr. Ludwig Guttmann. The first official Paralympic Games were held in Rome in 1960, and the movement has since expanded significantly, with the Games now held every four years in conjunction with the Olympic Games.
