Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream has been in development since 2017
Nintendo has confirmed that Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream has been in development for the Nintendo Switch since 2017, following the completion of Miitomo. The idea for a new installment in the Tomodachi Life series arose from a desire to give Mii characters more experiences than were possible in the original Nintendo 3DS game.
