Jon Favreau revealed that Star Wars creator George Lucas granted permission to use an original Red Jammer Y-wing starfighter model in The Mandalorian and Grogu. The model, originally created as a reference for A New Hope, makes its first on-screen appearance in the film. Lucas's American Graffiti also served as an inspiration for the film's narrative.
