James Gunn says the "DCU is not a Xerox of DC Comics" as he teases a different take on an iconic DC villain
James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, clarified that the DC Universe is an alternate universe and not a direct adaptation of DC Comics. He expressed his preference for the original, less malevolent portrayal of Maxwell Lord, created by Keith DeMatteis, J.M. Giffen, and Kevin Maguire, rather than the more villainous version he was later retconned into. Gunn's comments came in response to a fan's question about Guy Gardner working for Lord in the upcoming Superman film.
