The One Piece anime remake that streamlines 50 chapters into seven episodes was supposed to be even shorter
The director of Netflix's upcoming One Piece anime remake, Masashi Koizuka, revealed that the seven-episode series was initially planned to be even shorter than its current 300-minute runtime. Koizuka stated that he wanted to include many beloved elements, leading to the extended length. The remake aims to retell the beginning of the story, covering the first 50 chapters of the manga, in a way that is accessible to new fans while still offering something for existing ones, following advice from creator Eiichiro Oda to express their own interpretation rather than simply copy the original work.
