The Morning After: Amazon pledges its satellite internet starts this year
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced that its satellite internet service, Leo, will begin service by mid-2026, promising download speeds up to 1Gbps. The company aims for faster speeds, lower costs, and integration with other Amazon products. Separately, Greece will ban social media for children under 15 starting in 2027, and Amazon is discontinuing support for older Kindle and Fire tablet models.
Amazon is cutting off support for older Kindles
Amazon is discontinuing support for Kindle e-readers and Fire tablets released in 2012 or earlier, starting May 20, 2026. Affected devices will lose the ability to purchase, borrow, or download new content, and factory resets will render them unusable. Amazon is offering discounts on newer Kindle models to encourage upgrades.
