Nvidia announced its RTX Mega Geometry foliage system will be used in The Witcher 4, enhancing its forests with advanced ray tracing and triangle updating techniques. This technology, leveraging opacity micromaps and selective updates to ray tracing structures, aims to significantly reduce CPU overhead and improve performance for high-fidelity, path-traced assets. The game, built on Unreal Engine 5, is expected to feature extremely dense forests, and this system is designed to handle the visual complexity while maintaining game-ready performance.
