Game’s Price Is Lower Because This Fall Is So Packed, Dev Admits
Developer One More Level and publisher Lyrical Games have priced Valor Mortis at $40 and made it available day-one on Xbox Game Pass to compete with a crowded fall release schedule. Lyrical Games boss Blake Rochkind stated the lower price allows the game to be an "and game" for consumers, while Game Pass provides reach to players who might not otherwise purchase it. The first-person souls-like set during the Napoleonic Wars will launch on October 13 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
"We probably need a few more Expedition 33s to just prove them wrong" – the maker of Valor Mortis on why publishers should have faith in AA
One More Level, the studio behind Ghostrunner, discusses the challenges of securing funding for AA games despite successes like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. After losing publisher Private Division, the studio found a new partner in Lyrical Games, a publisher focused on mid-tier titles, allowing them to maintain their team and quality for Valor Mortis.

Lyrical Games and One More Level have delayed the release of their first-person Napoleonic Soulslike, Valor Mortis, to October 13th. This decision was made to avoid direct competition with the heavily stacked September release schedule, particularly Grand Theft Auto 6. The game features supernatural elements and a demo is currently available on Steam.
