Slay the Spire 2 devs weren't going to make a sequel, but then the publisher handling the first game's ports…
Mega Crit initially did not plan to develop Slay the Spire 2, but the impending closure of Humble Games, the publisher for the first game's console and mobile ports, necessitated a sequel. The studio found it difficult to update the PC version while other platforms were unsupported, leading to the decision to create a new title. Slay the Spire 2 has since justified its existence with new characters and co-op features.
