Undead Labs studio head Philip Holt revealed that the initial trailer for State of Decay 3 in 2020 was created before development began, with the game concept existing only in a Word document at the time. The studio has since progressed, with a new trailer released in summer 2024 and alpha testing commencing in May, though a release date remains unannounced.
